A Health Coach is a mentor. Someone who helps in the guidance of their clients to a healthier more empowered version of themselves.
Health coaches help clients take a deep look at their lifestyles, stress levels, and nutrition.
Life Coaches work with their clients to overcome obstacles and make powerful shifts in their life. They accomplish this through the use of action plans and the creation of realistic, S.M.A.R.T goals.
Life coaches believe that the tools to achieve these goals resides within every person, they just need to understand how to use them.
In short Holistic Nurse Health and Wellness Coaching is a combination of health coaching and life coaching. However, what sets the Nurse Coach apart is their background as a Registered Nurse.
According to the American Nurses Association, the nurse coach works with the whole person, using principles and modalities that integrate the body-mind-spirit-environment.
Professional Nurse Coaching is a skilled, purposeful, results-oriented, and structured relationship-centered interaction with clients provided by registered nurses for the purpose of promoting achievement of client goals. Achievement of client goals is accomplished by first establishing a co-creative partnership with the client as the expert and then identifying the client's priorities and areas for change (2013).
I am a Master’s prepared Registered Nurse, a nursing professor and a Holistic Nurse Health and Wellness Coach. I received my BSN from Caldwell University, MSN from University of Phoenix and certificate in Nurse Coaching from The Nurse Coach Collective. I have spent 16 years in emergency medicine holding the positions of EMT, ER tech, and ER nurse.
Over the years I saw that the symptomatic approach to treatment was insufficient and began to want more for my patients. My journey led me to seek better outcomes for individuals when a holistic approach was taken; one that looks at the connections between the mind, body, and spirit.
As a Holistic Nurse Health and Wellness Coach, I am able to help clients view their health as a whole and not just the symptoms. I help my clients practice being mindful and living for each present moment.
I work with clients on a one to one basis. During coaching sessions together, goals and plans are created to help them find balance and start living their most fulfilled life.
